The Bernens family lived in or near the villages of Erlte and Visbek in Oldenberg, Germany.  The families in this region took the names of the farms they owned or lived on.  As a consequence, individuals may be know by multiple names throughout their lives. The individuals in this record are shown in relation to Joseph Bernens and Anna Marie Neihaus who emigrated to Cincinnati on about 1840. The name found in this research was Berens and appears to have been changed to Bernens on emigration although this change is not well documented.
